Wolseley staff and customers fund Atlantic 85 Lifeboat in Sunderland

In 2005, Wolseley, the largest distributor of construction products and materials in the UK, raised a tremendous £125,000 to fund the purchase of an Atlantic 85 Lifeboat at Sunderland Lifeboat Station. This state-of-the-art lifeboat allows even faster response times, space for an additional crewmember and the provision of radar, all of which improve both the safety of our volunteer crewmembers and their ability to save more lives at sea. To reach this fundraising target, Wolseley encouraged not only its staff, but also its customers and suppliers to help support the RNLI.
The Atlantic B817 ‘Wolseley’ was officially named and handed over to Sunderland Lifeboat Station in September. Showing their continued support, Wolseley has since made an additional donation of £20,000 to the RNLI. This kind donation will offset the average annual cost of training for each Lifeboat station, helping the RNLI to continue with its vital work.

Nigel Sibley, Managing Director of Wolseley UK 2007 'Knowing that the Atlantic B817 ‘Wolseley’ will be saving lives at sea is a great testament to the fundraising efforts of Wolseley UK’s staff and customers'
