Simple tips for safe boating

The RNLI and Finning Power Systems (Finning) have developed a relationship centering around the RNLI's Sea Safety messages. With studies demonstrating that engine failure is responsible for a significant number of lifeboat callouts, Finning has joined with the RNLI's Sea Safety team to help raise awareness, with simple tips for safe boating. These include a practical pocket guide on the basics of starting, running and looking after engines, and an online podcast demonstrating simple safety procedures and advice. The brochures will be available at boat shows and exhibitions where the RNLI or Finning are present and you can view the podcast on Finning's website.
Finning Power Systems supplies the Cat C18 diesel marine engines for the Tamar class lifeboat, the RNLI's most advanced vessel to date. There are currently ten Tamar class lifeboats in service at stations across the UK, from Padstow in Cornwall to Longhope in the Orkney Isles, with other boats presently in build.

'As a major supplier of marine engines, we want every boat owner to enjoy their time on the water and are proud to be working with the RNLI to help more people stay safely afloat. At Finning, safety is our top priority, so we are delighted to be supporting the RNLI to help raise awareness of the importance of regular engine checks and help reduce the numbers of casualties at sea.'
